2020 Ram 3500 Big Horn Performance Features and Price
Posted on February 20, 2020
Voted '2020 Truck of the Year' by industry experts Motortrend, the Ram 3500 is a one-ton truck which continues to go from strength to strength. What are the main features of the latest mid-range version, the 2020 Ram 3500 Big Horn?
Powertrain Options
As with other trims in the 3500 Heavy Duty lineup, the Big Horn has several powertrain options to suit your individual needs.
At the standard level, the 6.4L V8 engine produces 410 horsepower and 429lb-ft of torque, pushed out to the four-wheel drive through an eight-speed automatic transmission.
Going up a level, the 6.7L I-6 turbo diesel engine sacrifices a little horsepower for greatly increased torque, with figures of 370hp and 850lb-ft respectively. This configuration features a standard six-speed automatic transmission.
However, the top-level powertrain takes a high-output version of the 6.7L engine and pairs it with an advanced six-speed automatic transmission from specialist manufacturers Alsin. This combination produces an impressive 400hp coupled with an outstanding 1,000lb-ft of torque, currently the highest in its class.
Exterior Appearance
Compared to lower trims in the 3500 range, the Big Horn looks distinctly more sporty and expensive. For example, the standard steel wheels are replaced with chrome-clad versions in either 18-inch or 17-inch sizes. The front and rear bumpers also get the chrome treatment, while the brightened grille with a chrome surround further adds to the impressive looks of the truck.
A great external appearance isn't perhaps the most important aspect of a working truck, but it's certainly a nice extra to have, and the 3500 Big Horn is one of the best-looking pickups you'll see on the road.
Interior and Technology
As well as sprucing up the exterior, Ram's Big Horn versions traditionally make the interior that little bit more comfortable than lower trims. The 3500 Big Horn continues this trend, with extras including swapping out the standard vinyl seats for softer premium cloth, and the addition of remote keyless entry.
In all 3500 Big Horn trucks, the front seat is a split-bench type with a folding armrest and console in the centre. In the crew cab versions, the rear bench can be folded down along its full width to free up space for tools or secure cargo storage.
Multimedia facilities may not be a huge selling point in a truck, but the Big Horn is nonetheless respectably equipped. As standard there's a 5" screen to control the audio system, with options available for 8.6" and 12" screens, with features including Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and satellite navigation
2020 Ram 3500 Big Horn Starting Price
With its combination of performance, range of features, and looks the 3500 Big Horn offers great value for money. The manufacturer's starting price comes in at $54,795, which includes the standard Ram warranty of three years / 60,000km, plus powertrain cover for five years / 100,000km.
