Jeep Gladiator in Calgary
Powertrain and Performance
As standard, the Gladiator carries over the capable powertrain from the Wrangler lineup, based around a 3.6L Pentastar V6 gasoline engine pushing out 285 horsepower. There's a choice of either 6-speed manual or 8-speed automatic transmission, with both feeding all-wheel drive as standard. This gas configuration supplies 260lb-ft of torque.
However, if torque is more important for you than raw horsepower, the optional 3.0L turbo V6 diesel engine coupled with automatic transmission can deliver an impressive 442lb-ft, although with a slightly lower horsepower rating of 260hp.
Fuel Economy
The gas version of the Gladiator offers fuel economy figures of 14.3L / 100km for city driving, and 10.4L / 100km on the highway. Official figures for the diesel powertrain aren't yet available, although they're expected to be slightly less thirsty.
Payload and Towing Capacity
The Gladiator's 1.5m steel bed is capable of carrying payloads of up to 725kg, which is toward the generous side for a mid-size truck. The towing capability is even more impressive, with up to 3,470kg capacity available if you opt for the high-torque diesel engine option. As an additional bonus, the Gladiator has an automatic towing mode, tweaking the transmission for better acceleration when it detects the weight of a trailer.
Exterior and Styling
Although the Gladiator is a capable pickup, in terms of looks it's unmistakably a Jeep, borrowing much of its styling from the Wrangler line. As with its smaller off-road orientated cousins, the cabin's roof and doors can be removed for an open-air driving experience. And for an extra element of freedom, the windshield can be folded down in an option that's sure to impress off-road enthusiasts.
Interior and Technology
From the outside, the Jeep may feature traditional looks, but the interior shows that it's a fully modern truck. There's an 8.4" touchscreen to control the fourth-generation UConnect infotainment system, offering full smartphone integration via Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
The modern tech also extends toward safety features, with a roof-mounted camera and radar system providing blind-spot monitoring, automatic emergency braking, and adaptive cruise control features.
2020 Jeep Gladiator Pricing
For a truck of this capability, the Gladiator is priced affordably. The entry-level Sport S trim has a recommended retail price starting at $47,545, rising to $54,545 for the top-line Rubicon edition. All trims come with the standard Jeep warranty covering three years or 60,000km, or five years / 160,000km for corrosion cover.
